SANAC  ISSUE  PAPER  # 3

ISSUE:            FAR Part 150 Noise Study.

BACKGROUND:     At the May 1998 SANAC meeting this issue was one of thirty-eight issues brought forward as a possible noise reduction idea by members of the SANAC committee and the general public.

ANALYSIS / DISCUSSION:        An engineering contractor was hired to accomplish this FAA sponsored noise study.  HNTB completed the study in late 1999 about the same time that Pam Am Airways started scheduled service at the airport.  Their B-727 equipment are Stage II aircraft modified for the year 2000 with hush kits and improved wing technology to attain lower noise levels.  Nevertheless, the FAA has asked that the study be expanded to include this Pan Am aircraft.

CONCLUSION:        It was decided that the best way to handle this problem was to complete and publish the initial study then immediately start on an addendum to include the nosier state II modified B-727 aircraft.

RECOMMENDATION:            Complete both studies as quickly as possible and publish the results.  Hold public meetings to present the data at locations in Sanford and Lake Mary areas.
