Sanford, Fla., October 13, 2000 In the most recent activity report from Airports Council International, Orlando Sanford International Airport ranked 29th in the world and 24th in the nation for number of aircraft operations (any take-off or landing). This impressive standing is expected to continue through the next reporting periods, with operations for September up by 8% and year-to-date figures more than 2% higher than last year.
Other Airport figures are also making a strong showing for the period. Orlando Sanford International posted 11,339 domestic passengers and 125,542 international passengers for the month. These numbers place international traffic 15% above 1999 and domestic traffic nearly 200% above last year. Year-to-date passenger numbers have also increased an impressive 23%, with 123,870 domestic and 770,547 international travelers.
Airport expansion plans continue on target and the announcement of the 2001 grand opening celebration is expected soon.
