Ranks Among World’s Most Active Airports

  Sanford, Fla., October 13, 2000 – In the most recent activity report from Airports Council International, Orlando Sanford International Airport ranked 29^th in the world and 24^th in the nation for number of aircraft operations (any take-off or landing).  This impressive standing is expected to continue through the next reporting periods, with operations for September up by 8% and year-to-date figures more than 2% higher than last year.

Other Airport figures are also making a strong showing for the period.  Orlando Sanford International posted 11,339 domestic passengers and 125,542 international passengers for the month.  These numbers place international traffic 15% above 1999 and domestic traffic nearly 200% above last year.  Year-to-date passenger numbers have also increased an impressive 23%, with 123,870 domestic and 770,547 international travelers.

Airport expansion plans continue on target and the announcement of the 2001 grand opening celebration is expected soon.
