OPENS NEW RUNWAY

Sanford, Fla., January, 1999 – The Orlando Sanford Airport announces the opening of a new touch-and-go runway. The new 3,500-foot runway, 9R-27L, was constructed primarily for aviation flight training. "This runway will create separation between our large commercial jets and general aviation aircraft, as well as reduce congestion on the Airport’s main runway," says Victor D. White, executive director at Orlando Sanford Airport.

Congressman John L. Mica will participate in a dedication ceremony, along with members of the Sanford Airport Authority and other local dignitaries, on January 26, 1999, beginning at 10:00 a.m. The ceremony will also commemorate the opening of the Airport’s new Air Rescue and Fire Fighting Station.
